A diesel truck, bus or coach (over 3.5t) is classified by its date of first registration. The official table gives 4 bands, the newest being Crit'Air 2.

Crit'Air is decided by fuel, vehicle category and the date of first registration on your V5C. This is the table for a diesel truck, bus or coach (over 3.5t) — and the categories genuinely disagree with one another, so applying the car table to a van gives the wrong answer.

“Non classé” is not a loophole. A vehicle too old for the table gets no sticker at all, and a zone that admits Crit'Air 5 still bars it. It is the strictest outcome, not the absence of one.
